Liquid Eyeliner Countdown ♥

Cat-eye lovers, come hither! Reviews of my top 5 eyeliners~

#5. Almay Liquid Eyeliner in Black

  • Formula Description: Thin and watery.
  • *Staying Power: It doesn't necessarily last more than any other drugstore liner, but I do like the way it wears off. It kind of fades as opposed to smearing or flaking.. It blends nicely into the eyelash line. If you stay over at a friend's and don't wash it off before bed, you won't be horrified by it the next morning like some liners.
  • Opacity: Kind of inky. It soaks into skin instead of building a layer on top of it, so it isn't very shiny or dark.
  • Ease of Application: This is my least favorite applicator. It's one of those triangle foam applicators and while using the tip does make it much more precise than a brush, I just find it more difficult. I guess I prefer the natural sweeping motion of a brush when doing a cateye instead of feeling like I'm drawing it on.

#4. e.l.f. Essential Liquid Eyeliner in Black

  • Formula Description: Smooth and dark, but a little watery.
  • Staying Power: I've only used this once so far, but it seems to have pretty good staying power. I kept it on overnight and most of it was still in tact in the morning. A lot of that depends on how much you touch your eyes and how oily your eyelids are.. But this liner has about the same staying power as any other drugstore liner, which makes it is super impressive since it's only $1.
  • Opacity: It's pretty dark but the only problem is that it can be difficult to build. It's thick enough to appear pretty opaque but it's watery enough to wash out if you try to layer it too hastily. If you have patience in application, you can make it pretty opaque.
  • *Ease of Application: I am absolutely head over heels in love with this applicator brush. It's like the complete opposite of Almay's foam one. This brush is very long, thin, and flexible which works marvelously with the consistency of the formula as far as application goes. Its sweeping motion makes perfect lines if you know how to control the brush.

#3 MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

  • *Formula Description: This is actually a gel liner, not a liquid but I love that about it. Very creamy and extremely easy to control.
  • Staying Power: Above-average staying power since it's by a professional make-up brand but it isn't specifically made to be long-lasting or waterproof or anything like that so it does have the potential to fade.
  • Opacity: I'd say this may be its weak point since I usually go for a very deep dark liner. This one is definitely black and although it does create definite lines, it sort of blends into skin instead of creating a layer on top of it which causes it to lack depth in comparison to other liners.
  • Ease of Application: Easy to apply and control and is good for beginners. Glides well and only goes where you put it. The only hassle is that you'll need a brush for this and every time you use it, you have to wash the brush. This makes it somewhat time-consuming and inconvenient to take on the go.

#2 NYX Liquid Eyeliner in Black

  • Formula Description: Smooth and on the watery side but can thicken and accumulate flakes over time.
  • Staying Power: This one probably has the worst staying power. It has a tendency to flake off random bits instead of smudging or rubbing off so you run the risk of having chunks missing from your eyeliner as opposed to a gradient fade that occurs with other more watery liners.
  • *Opacity: Super, super opaque. It goes on very dark black and dries to have somewhat of a shine that creates a lot of depth. Looks harsher and more dramatic than any of the other liners.
  • Ease of Application: Although it has the look of a very thick liner by the time you're done, it's formula is actually pretty thin so it's easy to apply. I like that it has a brush applicator, it works well with the eyeliner to sweep straight, defined lines.

#1 MAC Liquidlast Liner in Point Black

  • Formula Description: Very thick and gooey.
  • *Staying Power: Amazing! They didn't name it Liquidlast for nothing. This stuff stays on through it all! I don't know what more to say, it just... won't come off until you want it to!
  • Opacity: Definitely opaque. Probably as opaque as the NYX liner but it doesn't have the slight shine.
  • Ease of Application: This is the downside, it's so hard to apply sometimes. It takes a lot of patience and focus because the sticky formula just does not glide like normal liquid ones. Even worse, if you mess up (which you are likely to do with this formula), it is so hard to get off (since it's Liquidlast)! But once you get used to it and take your time, it's definitely possible to apply it perfectly and reap the benefits despite the goopy formula.
